3 Tips To Get Messy House Back In Order

    Overwhelmed by the messy house?

Certainly, cluttered/messy surrounding is bound to stress, anxiety, and poor concentration. It makes you feel jammed.

That said, we all go through such situations. Our house can get really messy at times. Be it a long vacation, some celebration, having guests over, health issues, or simply because you procrastinated for several days/months.

No matter what it is, these simple tricks work. They are simple yet effective.

If you keep following these steps at least once every few days your house won’t get that bad.

3 TIPS TO GET MESSY HOUSE BACK IN ORDER

    1| Start teeny-tiny:

The very first step is to start small. Really really small.

Little baby steps are the key. Especially when decluttering, cleaning, and organizing your home.

Initially, designate a doable chunk of time — 10 or 15 minutes every day. Give yourself permission to perform average (good enough).

Remember, the state of your house has become like this for a while. So it will be wise to give it time to be restored in a sustainable way.

Even in the case of decluttering, stick to the basics in the beginning. For example, discard old clothes, expired products, broken items, etc.- Things that you don’t have to think twice about.

    2| Keep it simple:

    Finish in One swipe.

Example: If your dining table is covered in dust with all the stuff scattered. Just take a basket. Put all the stuff lying on the dining table into the basket. And give the table a quick wipe. If grease/spots are smeared on the table, spray some good cleaner, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it. Remember wipe just once and move on. Allow yourself to work loosely without precision. It’ll keep getting better every time you wipe it. But for now, let’s not get into scrubbing/scraping and focusing on that single table. Let’s proceed to our next cleaning project.

If your ceiling fans/light fixtures or other stuff is covered in dust, then as well wipe it once. Don’t go over it again. Not even once during that particular session. You can clean it on the next cleaning schedule.

Remember to clean/wipe/dust only once per session.

    Reason?
Scrubbing/wiping/dusting the same thing repeatedly is really discouraging especially when you think of cleaning in the future.

    Embrace good enough results.

Another thing is to try putting things back in their place in

    3| Go through again:

Do it over every few days.

If you clean in this manner, things will start looking okayish in the first go.

The second time it will look good.

That way it’ll keep getting in shape and you won’t have to break your back in a single attempt.

That way cleaning won’t be daunting. In fact, next time you might feel motivated because:

    • You are just going to clean/declutter /organize for 10 or 15 minutes
    • cleaning has now become less laborious
    • Since you clean at regular intervals the workload is light.

In what order can you clean a messy house?

I usually begin in the living room. Then I set my bedroom and lastly, I go to my kitchen.

  • Quick Daily Cleaning Routine

    Quick Daily Cleaning Routine

Establishing a daily cleaning routine means getting into the habit of cleaning.

It means cultivating a mindset of living in a clean home.

An effective daily cleaning reduces chaos, eliminates day-to-day stress, and provides a healthy environment.

It ensures order and peace in your home.

Forming a daily cleaning habit is super easy.

It’s just like developing a new habit.

The more you practice the better you get.

    Repetition is the key.

Routines allow you to do that on autopilot.

With practice, you develop speed and get faster.

After a time, you won’t even notice that you accomplished so much in a flash.

Considering that you have a lot on your plate, we will try to keep the daily cleaning routine easily achievable.

Precisely, we will keep our daily cleaning routine short and quick.

That means not more than 3 tasks per day.

I want to clarify that we’re focusing on everyday cleaning only.

This is going to be your daily cleaning routine.

You can take it further and add your weekly/monthly tasks. (More on that soon in another post)

The idea is to get the most crucial tasks done for the day so your house runs smoothly.

A shorter routine means you feel motivated to keep at it.

Even the smallest tasks have a bigger impact. Following this routine, your home will feel like a better place. And everyone in your home can relax and operate effortlessly.

    QUICK DAILY CLEANING ROUTINE

    10-minute Kitchen Cleanup:

They say “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. I would say the same goes for other family members too.

But if you’re kitchen is a super mess it’s hard to cook even the basic meal.

A clean kitchen provides a healthy, hygienic, and safe environment for your family.

That said, kitchen clean-up always sounds like a dreadful task.

    Honestly, it isn’t.

Yes, even the busiest and messier area like the kitchen doesn’t need a lot of labor unless you do a little bit to keep it in a condition where you find it good enough to work.

I wrote this article where I talk about how to keep your kitchen clean in 10 minutes or less! in details.

I’m sure even beginners starting their journey toward having a clean and organized home would find it helpful.

    Simple things like

    • putting things away after use
    • loading/unloading the dishwasher
    • handwashing the dishes
    • quickly wiping down the stove, countertops, and appliances
    • sweep/spot mopping the floor
    • emptying trash

    make such a difference.

    One load of laundry:

To avoid mountains of laundry lying on a chair/couch/floor it’s better to tackle one load daily.

If laundry appears like a never-ending chore some sort of system becomes necessary.

My trusted way is doing one load (washing, drying, folding, putting away) each day. Some days maybe a couple more times.

But yes one load a day works for us (husband and I).

If you are a large family, tackling one load daily would help prevent chaos.

Since there are mixed views on this topic, if you hate laundry to be a part of your daily routine, you can find a system that works for you. And swap this chore for another non-negotiable cleaning task.

But if you haven’t tried it already. I highly recommend doing one load daily for some days to know the difference.

    10-minute Rooms set up:

Anyone can hardly relax in a cluttered space.

A messy home usually makes you overwhelmed. You encounter difficulties carrying out your day-to-day tasks.

You can struggle to do the simplest things like getting ready for the day, sending kids to school, or comforting your husband after a long day at work.

Most of us may not realize but dedicating a few minutes to set up rooms (main living areas) is such a simple but powerful way to (instantly) improve the condition of your home.

Tidying up a little bit can largely prevent sickness caused by dust, bacteria, and molds.

    The little things like

    • making beds
    • putting kids’ toys back in their baskets
    • putting dirty laundry in the hamper/hanging clothes
    • Restoring shoes back
    • Straightening up the key areas
    • wiping down surfaces
    • swishing and swiping the bathroom
    • Vacuuming busy areas
    • Dumping mails and magazines in a basket
    • spot mopping

can help bring back order to your home. You’ll sense control over your environment. Your home will appear neat and tidy.

    Final Words:

Now you know you can keep your home reasonably clean and tidy with little effort and spending a few moments (15-20 minutes) daily.

One thing for sure is that this short and quick daily cleaning routine will bring your home to a level where you have fewer occasions and tasks for deep cleaning.

I hope this simple and quick daily cleaning routine lowers your pressure and allows you to enjoy your home and life more.

  • How To Clean A Messy House FASTER

How To Clean A Messy House FASTER

You have been overlooking house cleaning for quite a while, your house is a complete disaster, and you don’t know where to start?! No worries, I have some practical tips to help you clean your messy house faster.

Regardless of how messy your home is, this process will help restore order in your home in just an hour or two.

All you have to do is go over your home in 5 simple rounds.

Unlike our speed-clean your house in just 30 minutes technique (where we go room by room), we’re going to clean the entire house in rounds this time.

After the cleaning session, you will see significant changes in how your home looks, feels, and smells. Your house will be homey and comfortable.

    It’s going to be worthwhile.

    So, let’s begin.

HOW TO CLEAN A MESSY HOUSE FASTER

A little prep work before we get into cleaning:

    • Get dressed in shoes.
    • Wear comfortable clothes. Tie up your hair.
    • Have a smoothie or light snack.
    • Bring out your vacuum cleaner, cleaning caddy, baskets/bags, and garbage bags (large ones).
    • Keep your phone aside. Try to use it only when necessary.
    • Set the timer. As this will help you stay focused and race.

    #Round1 — Tackle Laundry:

Bring a laundry basket (for dirty washing) and a bag (for not-so-dirty clothing) with you.

For laundry, starting in the bedroom is a pretty good idea.

First, quickly fold and put away fresh/clean washing.

Next, dump all the dirty washing into the laundry basket.

Collect no-so-dirty clothing into the bag, you can handle them later.

Remove sheets/covers while you are there. Put it into the hamper.

Check bathrooms for dirty towels and laundry.

Make sure to grab clothes from the living room too. If the cushion covers and throws need cleaning, grab them too.

Lastly, check the kitchen for dirty rags, kitchen towels, etc.

Bring everything to the laundry room. Start a load of daily wash (since it doesn’t need special treatment). Doing so at least one load of laundry will be done as you finish cleaning.

#Round2 — Pick up the house:

In the next round, we’ll pick up and straighten things real quick.

Grab a basket/bag to collect items (that come from another room) and a bag for garbage.

Start in the room that feels more out of control.

    Start clockwise.

If the items belong to the same room quickly place them back in the designated area.

Put toys in the toy box and items from the other rooms into the basket/bag.

Simultaneously collect garbage. Collect dirty dishes, bowls, or cups in one corner.

    Straighten up alongside.

Follow the same steps for the bedroom, kids’ room, and entryway. Yes, don’t forget the entryway.

#Round3 — Clean up the kitchen:

Let’s tackle the kitchen pretty quickly too.

First, grab all the scraps and waste. Throw them in the trash bin. (I always begin with this because 50 percent of my work gets done with this one step).

Next, clear clutter from the countertops. Put away supplies, appliances (that need to go inside the cabinets), and also any clean dishes. Things like mail, toys, stationery, etc get collected into a bag/basket.

Load and run (if the load is full) the dishwasher.

Wipe down the stove and countertops. Quickly wipe the appliances.

Wash off any remaining utensils. Quickly scrub, rinse, and dry the sink and ta-da.

    #Round4 — Tidy bathroom:

Since the dirty laundry is already taken care of, the bathroom job is a matter of minutes.

Shake off and dust the bath mat.

Quickly spray the mirror, sink, toilet bowl, and bath fixtures with a cleaner. Let it sit and do the job while you return things in place.

Wipe down the mirror, sink, counters, flush tank, and toilet seat. Quickly scrub the toilet. Squeegee walls. Mop floor.

    Remove trash.

    Turn on the Aroma diffuser.

#Round5 — Take out the trash, dust, and vacuum:

    Take out the trash first.

Next, quickly remove cobwebs. Dust and wipe down surfaces, mirrors, lamps, lights, ceiling fans, dining room tables and chairs, and furniture.

Lastly, vacuum high-traffic areas — living room, kids’ room, kitchen, bedroom, entryway.

Put new sheets on the bed; fresh cushion covers and throw; towels in the kitchen and bathroom.

Lit some scented candles or turn on the diffuser of essential oil.

    Final words:

There you have a nice and clean home in the shortest time.

Give yourself a pat on the back. Now you can crash on your couch with your phone, reward yourself with some favorite food, watch TV, or do whatever you love before you get to your further duties.

I hope you find these tips helpful. I would love to learn new tips and tricks from you. So be sure to share them in the comments below. Thank you so much for reading. Happy Cleaning!
