    10-Minute Daily Tidy Up Routine

    The struggle to keep the house clean and tidy is real. Some days you comfortably get everything done and keep on top of things. Other times you may be occupied with other important work. And a few occasions, you may feel low or simply don’t want to do anything. Today I have a quick 10-minute tidy-up routine that’ll help you keep your home neat and clean all the time.

    Whatever the reason, one thing is for sure keeping the house clean and tidy isn’t hard as we think. With this daily 10-minute tidy-up routine you’re never going to look back. No more cluttered and messy space; no more embarrassing unexpected visits; no more beating yourself up for leaving the house in a mess.

    You can follow this 10-minute tidy-up routine to utilize your day effectively. And never feel unaccomplished even a single day with this daily 10-minute routine.

    You can get this routine done at any time of the day. I prefer to finish it in the morning so my house stays clean and tidy all day. Also, we have friends coming in at any time of the day (yes without prior notice) so this teeny-tiny routine helps me be carefree in such situations.

    Grab your all-purpose cleaner, microfibre cloth/cleaning rag, and a basket, and let’s get started.

    DAILY 10-MINUTE HOME TIDY UP ROUTINE

    1| 3-minute Living room tidy-up:

    So I begin with my living room for the obvious reason of getting it in order first.

    I set the timer for 3 minutes and start with the coffee table, moving around and putting things back where they belong. To collect all the items from other rooms, I carry a basket/bag.

    Next, I gather dirty clothes in one corner of my room.

    Straighten up the cushions, throws, and things out of place.

    This will make the next step easier — which is dusting.

    I quickly dust the knick-knacks and wipe down the surfaces. No thorough cleaning here. Just quickly go through everything wiping it down with a cloth.

    Quickly vacuum the rug and floor.

    And head to the bedroom.

    2| 2-minute bedroom tidy up:


    I make my bed first thing in the morning so that’s one less thing to do.


    In the same way as the living room, I set the timer for 2 minutes, and start clockwise restoring things in their designated place.

    Other stuff goes into the basket and laundry gets collected at one end of the room.

    Quickly wipe down the surfaces, bedsides, and dresser.

    Vacuum the floor, grab the dirty laundry, and head to the laundry area.

    3| 5-minute kitchen tidy up:

    Lastly, I again set the timer for 5 minutes. If there’s any clutter on the countertop I clear it. I quickly wash the dishes (if any). If you have a dishwasher you can load/unload it.

    Then I quickly wipe down the stove, countertop, dining room table, and chairs.

    Sweep/mop the floor and that’s it.

    Final words:

    One thing I would like to suggest is to move faster. You can consider this as your 10-minute exercise routine. And you’ll be amazed at how much you get done in this short time.

    Also if you have a few more minutes, tidy up the entryway. That way at least your main areas look neat and clean.

    If you religiously follow this 10-minute tidy-up routine, your house will be clean and tidy for the most part. Following this routine daily cleaning is going to be a breeze. Later it’ll hardly take you 10 minutes to complete the routine.

    I’m terribly bad at this homemaking skill.
    But I understand it’s worth learning.

    It is a helpful skill to make the most of our pre-existing items that require small, basic fixes to extend life.

    You can help your husband or kids with some small mending; stitch your exclusive table mats/runners/curtains/cushions etc if you want to take it further.

    You can easily alter clothes and make them fit better. Use special techniques to jazz up ordinary outfits and make them entirely different and unique pieces. That also means a unique wardrobe.

    Sewing skills can be your side hustle and make you good money too.

    Homemaking skill #4 Cleaning, organizing & decorating:

    People usually don’t consider but this is such an important homemaking skill one should master.

    Social media these days demands attractive, picture-perfect homes. And we all know how much money cleaning companies, professional organizers, and interior decorators charge these days.

    Plus, you’re hardly one hundred percent satisfied with their job no matter how big names you go with.

    But if you learn some cleaning tips and tricks, find good enough ways to organize your stuff, and know the basics of home decor, you, my lovelies can make your home as good as or even better than any professionals.

    Regardless of how curious we are to know the answer, a lot of us have presumptive mixed interpretations.

    For some, a homemaker’s job is chilling at home doing nothing.

    Others think homemaking is solely housekeeping.

    Yet many of them value the job of a homemaker.

    Today, let’s find out what a homemaker does all day. So that aspiring homemakers and others have an idea of what a homemaker’s day looks like.

    As I always say, homemaking is far more than popping something (out of the package) into the oven, dumping clothes into the washer, crowding the dishwasher with stinky dishes, and sending off kids and husband to school and the office ;).

    It means putting your heart and soul into your home. To make it a cozy, comfortable place for your loved ones.

    There are numerous ways seasoned homemakers go the extra mile to create a peaceful haven for their families.

    Today let’s have a look at some of them.

    What Does A HOMEMAKER Do All Day

    WHAT DOES A HOMEMAKER DO ALL-DAY

    1| Plans and prepares timely meals:

    Average families eat 3-4 meals a day, out of which 2-3 are main meals — breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The fourth meal is usually snacks.

    That means a homemaker has to constantly think and come up with meal ideas to serve each of these 4 times.

    She has to see to it that the meals are just not the same and there is variety. Something her family loves eating and is nourishing too.

    A homemaker plans meals, creates grocery lists, and gets the ingredients.

    She strives to serve tasteful, hot meals on time.

    She keeps in view the likes and dislikes of her family. And tries to include everyone’s favorite dish.

    2| Keeps house clean and tidy:

    After food, a homemaker looks to cleaning tasks that need to get done to provide a clean and safe living space.

    She knows to be able to serve meals on time, the kitchen should be cleaned very often.

    The furniture/upholstery/floors/rugs/ must be dusted, swept, vacuumed, or mopped regularly to keep the dirt and pests away.

    She empties trash regularly to eliminate odor. And changes the bed covers/sheets routinely to help everyone get better sleep.

    She’s aware that the house must be picked up at least once daily for each person to function effectively.

    She senses the bathroom requires periodic cleaning to prevent germs, dirt, and grime.

    A homemaker also knows the importance of decluttering occasionally to keep her home neat and organized.

    3| Keeps laundry current:

    A homemaker is informed of how important keeping on top of laundry is.

    She does her utmost to create and follow a good laundry routine.

    She wants her husband’s work clothes and kids’ school uniforms to be clean and ready whenever they need them.

    She finds better ways to wash the whites, brights, delicates, innerwear, socks, etc to extend clothing life.

    4| Buys groceries/does shopping:

    Besides being mindful of her family’s meal preferences, a homemaker ensures that nobody runs out of the essentials.

    Right from food ingredients to clothes to footwear to toiletries to school kits to home decor to more significant items like furniture, appliances, and whatnot.

    She carefully buys everything her family needs and seeks to provide comfort.

    She is the one who knows her family’s tastes and preferences and shops for them accordingly.

    5| Comes up with a sound organizational system for her home:

    Some homemakers are pros. They’re meticulous and have everything together.

    Others (like me) may not be so well-organized but seek to create an orderly place.

    A homemaker knows how a sound organizing system can help everyone function effectively and be happy and relaxed.

    Be it wardrobe, toys, kitchen items, or study room –assigning zones and predetermining places for everything make things go smoothly.

    Nowadays with a broad range of organizational ideas available on the internet, it’s pretty easy to find solutions.

    6| Ensures everyone has everything they need:

    A homemaker looks after every small need of her family — Whether it’s ensuring the kids have all school/craft/sports supplies or putting out office belongings and outfits for her husband the night before.

    She sees if the school bags are ready. And packs lunches that her husband and kids would enjoy eating.

    7| Deals with repairs and maintenance:

    A homemaker takes care of/fixes broken toys or miscellaneous items in day-to-day life.

    She also keeps notes, and books appointments to fix significant issues like electricity/plumbing work, appliance repair, maintenance, furniture issues, etc. For this, she keeps a record of bills and warranty statements.

    8| Provides care:

    Family safety and care are the homemaker’s top priority.

    She ensures people in her home get good sleep, eat well, stay active, and take their medications/vitamins (if any).

    She cares not only about physical fitness but also about the mental soundness of her family members.

    She’s there whenever her kids or husband needs her.

    A homemaker reads to her kids. Gives her husband a back rub after a hard day at work. And makes time for snuggles and long talks.

    9| Makes an effort to save money:

    Most homemakers, especially frugal ones try to save money as closely as possible.

    Creating and sticking to a budget, and keeping track of expenses is one of her daily tasks.

    She knows where to splurge/trim expenses.

    She believes too many cooks spoil the soup and chooses simplicity over complexness.

    Most homemakers also consider having a side hustle to aid their husband’s income.

    10| Creates a sanctuary:

    Finally, yet importantly, she adds loving touches to create a sanctuary. She comprehends how the aura of our home affects the family and visitors.

    She devotes herself to the tiny details of her home and spruces it up to transform it into a tranquil place.

    She believes in simple things like letting the fresh air and sunlight in, reducing noises, and making the bedroom warm and cozy.

    Not all days are the same for homemakers. Just like people working outside the home, a homemaker faces challenges.

    But maybe we become so insensitive to someone staying at home that we neglect all their hard work and responsibilities. And the sacrifices they make to be with their families.

    How To Clean A Messy House FASTER

    You have been overlooking house cleaning for quite a while, your house is a complete disaster, and you don’t know where to start?! No worries, I have some practical tips to help you clean your messy house faster.

    Regardless of how messy your home is, this process will help restore order in your home in just an hour or two.

    All you have to do is go over your home in 5 simple rounds.

    Unlike our speed-clean your house in just 30 minutes technique (where we go room by room), we’re going to clean the entire house in rounds this time.

    After the cleaning session, you will see significant changes in how your home looks, feels, and smells. Your house will be homey and comfortable.

    It’s going to be worthwhile.

    So, let’s begin.

    HOW TO CLEAN A MESSY HOUSE FASTER

    A little prep work before we get into cleaning:

    • Get dressed in shoes.
    • Wear comfortable clothes. Tie up your hair.
    • Have a smoothie or light snack.
    • Bring out your vacuum cleaner, cleaning caddy, baskets/bags, and garbage bags (large ones).
    • Keep your phone aside. Try to use it only when necessary.
    • Set the timer. As this will help you stay focused and race.

    #Round1 — Tackle Laundry:

    Bring a laundry basket (for dirty washing) and a bag (for not-so-dirty clothing) with you.

    For laundry, starting in the bedroom is a pretty good idea.

    First, quickly fold and put away fresh/clean washing.

    Next, dump all the dirty washing into the laundry basket.

    Collect no-so-dirty clothing into the bag, you can handle them later.

    Remove sheets/covers while you are there. Put it into the hamper.

    Check bathrooms for dirty towels and laundry.

    Make sure to grab clothes from the living room too. If the cushion covers and throws need cleaning, grab them too.

    Lastly, check the kitchen for dirty rags, kitchen towels, etc.

    Bring everything to the laundry room. Start a load of daily wash (since it doesn’t need special treatment). Doing so at least one load of laundry will be done as you finish cleaning.

    #Round2 — Pick up the house:

    In the next round, we’ll pick up and straighten things real quick.

    Grab a basket/bag to collect items (that come from another room) and a bag for garbage.

    Start in the room that feels more out of control.

    Start clockwise.

    If the items belong to the same room quickly place them back in the designated area.

    Put toys in the toy box and items from the other rooms into the basket/bag.

    Simultaneously collect garbage. Collect dirty dishes, bowls, or cups in one corner.

    Straighten up alongside.

    Follow the same steps for the bedroom, kids’ room, and entryway. Yes, don’t forget the entryway.

    #Round3 — Clean up the kitchen:

    Let’s tackle the kitchen pretty quickly too.

    First, grab all the scraps and waste. Throw them in the trash bin. (I always begin with this because 50 percent of my work gets done with this one step).

    Next, clear clutter from the countertops. Put away supplies, appliances (that need to go inside the cabinets), and also any clean dishes. Things like mail, toys, stationery, etc get collected into a bag/basket.

    Load and run (if the load is full) the dishwasher.

    Wipe down the stove and countertops. Quickly wipe the appliances.

    Wash off any remaining utensils. Quickly scrub, rinse, and dry the sink and ta-da.

    #Round4 — Tidy bathroom:

    Since the dirty laundry is already taken care of, the bathroom job is a matter of minutes.

    Shake off and dust the bath mat.

    Quickly spray the mirror, sink, toilet bowl, and bath fixtures with a cleaner. Let it sit and do the job while you return things in place.

    Wipe down the mirror, sink, counters, flush tank, and toilet seat. Quickly scrub the toilet. Squeegee walls. Mop floor.

    Remove trash.

    Turn on the Aroma diffuser.

    #Round5 — Take out the trash, dust, and vacuum:

    Take out the trash first.

    Next, quickly remove cobwebs. Dust and wipe down surfaces, mirrors, lamps, lights, ceiling fans, dining room tables and chairs, and furniture.

    Lastly, vacuum high-traffic areas — living room, kids’ room, kitchen, bedroom, entryway.

    Put new sheets on the bed; fresh cushion covers and throw; towels in the kitchen and bathroom.

    Lit some scented candles or turn on the diffuser of essential oil.

    Final words:

    There you have a nice and clean home in the shortest time.

    Give yourself a pat on the back. Now you can crash on your couch with your phone, reward yourself with some favorite food, watch TV, or do whatever you love before you get to your further duties.

    Make simple meals like one-pot meals or easy microwave meals so the number of utensils comes out less in the case of handwashing dishes.

    Put things away and wipe down the counters once at night so you can start your day nice and fresh in the kitchen the next morning.

    Buy only things you’ll use to keep your refrigerator and pantry manageable.

    A realistic plan allows you to attain goals faster and with less labor.

    You know, even if you follow a strict routine, something gets in the way, spreads chaos, and you fall behind the time.

    Planning helps in such situations. It allows you to be on top of things you can control.

    Despite a good daily routine, you require a step-by-step plan to know your next activity to avoid guesswork.

    Planning lowers stress as it eliminates the need to constantly remind things so you remember them.

    Proper planning eliminates decision-making that causes more fatigue than you ever think. It avoids interruptions and pauses because you know what to do next.

    Planning and scheduling can also help you avoid interruptions from family members or friends. You can lay out a chunk of time for them when you solely focus on them.

    Just assuring everything has its own time, you can dig deep into individuals and work.

    You gain more confidence and be happier if you check off things on your to-do list.

    These days, we hardly have enough time, strength, and finances to accomplish everything on our lists.

    The easiest way to prioritize your tasks is by sorting your lists into short-term goals, long-term goals, and wish lists.

    Create the lists in order/sequence of their urgencies.

    Now, create an action plan for the tasks on the lists.

    To achieve your February goal of deep cleaning your kitchen, first determine how much time you can dedicate each day after completing your daily tasks. Then, decide how much you plan to accomplish each day. For instance, on day one, you can declutter, wipe out, and organize the kitchen cupboard in 15 minutes.

    Another example: my short-term goals are — getting my daily-havetos, weekly cleaning routine, and meal planning done. My long-term goal is to redo my balcony. I need to attend my friend’s birthday. My family goal this month is to visit my parents. So, it’s just fine if I cannot redo my balcony this month because it is not at all urgent. But all other things on the list are important to me.

    Prioritizing means arranging tasks logically in the order of their urgency. It means picking essential tasks over irrelevant/pointless ones.

    It can help you thrive in the least amount of time.

    Prepare AHEAD:

    There are many ways you can do the prep work.

    You can start preparing the night before.

    Put your home to bed.

    Rise early (before your kids/husband) to indulge in quality time.

    I awake early to get a bunch of things done before my husband wakes up.

    Try maximizing your spare time.

    Clean as go.

    • Make beds.
    • Prepare meals.
    • Get the laundry started.
    • Load and run the dishwasher.
    • Do a quick pick up of your house.
    • Quickly vacuum.
    • Swish and swipe the bathroom.

    In truth, cleaning is not laborious. The way we do it is.

    If this wasn’t true, why would some people clean effortlessly and others not?

    Our cleaning technique/sequence of sub-tasks makes all the difference.

    After 15 years of trial and error, I have reached a point when my parents appreciate my clean home. When I am ready to welcome unexpected visitors in the shortest time of 10 minutes.

    How did I get there?

    I was tired of living in a mess.

    After reading a lot about cleaning, and watching seasoned homemakers, I discovered some cleaning rules. I discovered some reliable rules and practices for my home that made cleaning, a piece of cake.

    I set strict rules for myself; I became more disciplined; I followed those cleaning rules religiously for some time. This time I was a little patient and consistent.

    Truth be told, it changed my life.

    And now I can’t wait to share my cleaning rules with you my lovelies. So let’s begin.

    10 EFFECTIVE HOUSE CLEANING RULES THAT’LL MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER

    1| Pick 3-4 areas/rooms:

    That you want to focus on.

    This step is crucial if surprise guests get you cold feet.

    For me, it’s my living room + entrance, kitchen, and bathroom.

    When these areas in my home are picked up, my house looks clean.

    I usually restore things, arrange them, and sweep-mop the floor daily. So my living room is under control.

    But my entryway is mostly messy and calls for attention.

    For the kitchen, I like to keep on top of the dishes. I wipe the counters twice a day and try to keep them clutter-free.

    For the bathroom, I follow my 5-minute bathroom cleaning routine that I have already shared with you.

    That’s all, no more terrifying random visits.

    Similarly, you can pick areas/rooms in your home that are noticeable, make a list of what needs to get done in those areas and work accordingly.

    Along with this, also make sure that your home smells good. Because that’s going to make a whole lot of difference.

    2| Create a playlist of your favorite songs:

    Which can be your cleaning playlist.

    You can also listen to a podcast. But I find upbeat music helpful, especially when I don’t feel like cleaning at all.

    Cleaning gets done much faster when you’re listening to your favorite songs.

    It’s a good way to make cleaning time a little more interesting.

    3| Put your home to bed each night:

    Every night, before I go to bed, I put everything back where it belongs. It hardly takes me 2-5 minutes to tidy up each room but that makes a huge difference when I wake up in the morning.

    You’ll experience a positive change in your life as you start implementing this.

    Take a look around the important areas/rooms in your house — living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. See if anything is out of place. Put it back in place. That’ll make all the difference.

    Your house will look so much cleaner when you wake up in the morning.

    Leaving the house untidy at night is a recipe for a miserable day ahead.

    It doesn’t take so long when you do stuff often.

    It’s always best to control and prepare for the next morning.

    4| Keep your laundry current:

    Want to save yourself from an insane laundry day?

    Do laundry two or three times a week.

    This is going to make your life so much better irrespective of your family size.

    One day you can throw in a load of bedsheets and covers. Towels or homewear clothes on other days.

    It becomes a lot easier to deal with a small load (wash, dry, and put away). Lesser stuff is often easier to manage.

    5| One-move storage system:

    This is again a wise step to keep your house tidy all the time.

    What I mean by a one-move storage system is — you store things in the place of their first use. That means store them where you use them.

    This single-move storage system involves not only grouping similar items together but when you open your closet, vanity, or drawer — you grab whatever you want to use in one move.

    For example, store skincare and haircare products in the bathroom where you use them instead of a dresser in the bedroom.

    Cleaning rags and kitchen towels in the kitchen cabinet drawer.

    Dishwashing and kitchen cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink.

    Bathroom cleaning supplies near the bathroom.

    If you find your kids or husband never put their dirty clothes into the hamper even after telling them several times. Take a look at where you have placed the hamper? Is it easily accessible? Is it easier for kids and even elders to open it and dump the clothes in? Maybe placing an open basket (one without a lid) in your bedroom or near the bathroom can improve the situation. Also keeping detergents, fabric conditioners, and a basket near the washer can make laundry time hassle-free.

    Another way is to keep a trash bin in every room. Keep it in a place where it is easier to use.

    Similarly, your nightstand is not only a place to decorate with flowers and lamps. It should be functional as well. In fact, it should be organized thoughtfully. After a long day, you would hardly feel like getting up to grab a book/planner, pen, foot cream, or specs in case you want to read a book. So it’s smart to have those things on your nightstand.

    6| Do it in one go:

    Halfway spots make your house look untidy. Try to eliminate them as much as you can. Start targeting one spot and build on it gradually.

    For instance, earlier my kitchen table was a catchall spot. Though it was convenient to toss everything on, it made me feel terrible.

    But now the surfaces of my house are clear. I use them for work or decor purposes only. However, when they’re unused, they are mostly empty because that’s how I like them to be.

    7| Do it daily:

    Daily care is imperative for home management.

    In fact, everyday maintenance takes less time than delaying until the condition gets out of hand.

    By just giving your home 5 or 10 minutes a day you can get your home in pretty good shape.

    It’s simple, the house that has been neglected for a week is going to take an hour or two to get back in order.

    However, when you do it daily you can keep your house looking clean without spending a big chunk of time cleaning.

    In the earlier years of my marriage, I never used to do my dishes or kitchen clean during the daytime. I used to do it at night. I remember it took me 1 hour to put things, wash the dishes, and wipe down the stove and countertop as I was a messy cook. It was a huge energy and time-consuming process. Since it took a lot of effort I simply dreaded the task. Life was pretty stressful. Then I started putting the ingredients back in their place after use. Doing so made the task a little easier. Then after some time, along with that, I started wiping down the messes instantly. That my job 60 percent easier. Then I started rinsing the chopping board, knives, and like items, immediately.  Since it got easier with every additional step. I started enjoying the task. Now even a small bit of wrapper or peel on my countertop makes me feel uneasy. I can’t stand dishes in my sink. I always like my sink to be empty if not shiny.

    The same was the case with laundry and other parts of cleaning.

    By neglecting cleaning tasks you are only going to make your tomorrow worse. It only going to add extra hours to your cleaning schedule.

    8| Preventive care:

    You really work hard to declutter, clean, and organize your home but it barely stays that way. Just like your teeth need to be brushed daily. Your skin needs to be cleansed daily. Your nails need to be trimmed regularly. Things in your house require attention and care regularly.

    The house is going to get messy. The clutter is going to pile up and things scatter.

    The simplest solution is preventive care.

    There are 3 easy ways to do this.

    • Declutter every now and then
    • Clean as you go
    • Straighten up before bed

    9| Look before you leap:

    Being organized is essentially about being logical before acting.

    Often, following the same old cleaning methods get you nowhere.

    The way our mom or grandma did their housework may not work for us. So, we should be open to change. Maybe there’s a better way to clean the dishes faster, maybe there’s an effective way to keep on top of your laundry, or maybe there’s an easier way to dust your house, sweep, or mop the floors.

    Thankfully, in this era of the internet, finding new solutions, tips, tricks, and techniques is available at the click of a button.

    Find some new, efficient, and time-saving ways of doing your housework. Look for shortcuts and ways to do things faster and better.

    10| Declutter from time to time:

    I agree decluttering at times is challenging. For me, the decision-making that goes on whether to keep or discard something is the tough part.

    But those efforts pay off when your day-to-day life becomes easy.

    Life is simpler when you only have the things you need. The fewer items in your house, the lesser decisions you have to make.

    Plus, more stuff equals more items to dust, clean, organize, and maintain. And move back and forth while cleaning.

    Each homemaker’s morning routine is unique and depends entirely on how big/small your family is, the number of children, their ages, your husband’s profession, and whether you work from home.

    All this also determines the number of tasks involved and the duration of your morning routine.

    Regardless of the above factors, certain activities like laundry, preparing breakfast, general clean up, and dressing up never change for all homemakers.

    A morning routine seems boring because we think we need to wake up early.

    Which is not true.

    You don’t need to wake up early or at any specific time. Your wake time is tied to your life phase.

    But I highly recommend getting up at least a few minutes before your family.

    This will allow you a few extra minutes to pack lunches, spend some quiet time, meditate, exercise, spend time with God, or prepare ahead of the day.

    You can also make your mornings more productive by including chores that help you stay on top of things.

    Things like making beds, unloading the dishwasher, starting laundry, post-breakfast kitchen clean up, or wiping down the bathroom.

    The key is to keep the routine short. And be at high speed.

    Use your morning routine time to get up and move your body if you have no time to exercise. Just pick up speed as you perform your daily household chores.

    Nightly routine:

    A wind-up routine is a must after a long day to reset, relax, and revive.

    Leaving the house messy, not preparing for the next day, and going to bed without spending a few moments relaxing is one sure way to wake up feeling overwhelmed and discouraged.

    A little bit of cleaning, preparation, and self-care can help eliminate all the stress and set you up for a more productive morning.

    As good as your skin (needs good cleansing to remove all the grime and grease accumulated throughout the day), it is necessary to bring your house back to its former (clean and tidy) state every night for it to be restful.

    When you declutter every so often you reduce distractions. You’ll be able to focus on your home and family more.

    How to treat homemaking like a job is a common question among homemakers.

    Maybe for a couple of reasons.

    One, we sense the absence of determination, obedience, and commitment to homemaking. Two, homemakers are discredited in our society.

    How many times have you heard

    “oh, you’re JUST a homemaker”,

    “oh, you just stay home” or

    “she’s not independent?

    Even worse in my case — my relative said to someone in my face, “She’s educated but doesn’t earn money”.

    I mean, what kind of view is this?

    But yes, the point is, it is their view. We shouldn’t even bother.

    I absolutely have no value for such views/opinions. It’s our life and we have the power and authority to decide for ourselves.

    That being said, it may be affecting us at some point when people behave like that so we thought we treat homemaking like a job.

    We must treat homemaking like a job to hold ourselves accountable and feel better about our role as homemakers.

    What I find is people’s negative impression of homemakers isn’t because of the job title but mainly because they think we sit idly at home.

    It’s a universal truth that only hardworking beings are approved by society.

    You can’t be happy if you don’t produce.

    You’re happy, content, and confident when you work hard. And that reflects in your attitude.

    Homemakers who put in work, earn respect.

    Homemaking is a calling. It’s a blessing. I love being a homemaker because I love to stay home, cook, clean, and care for my husband. I enjoy blogging because I’m able to do it from home.

    However, I should not treat unfairly this beautiful role God has gifted me.

    As we saw in the earlier post, we have many responsibilities as a homemaker. We must ensure those are fulfilled. This can be easily done by treating homemaking like a job.

    What makes someone successful in a career? Their passion, discipline, hard work, consistency, and patience. In short, sound work ethics make a person successful in their career.

    But when it comes to homemaking we hardly take it seriously.

    We disregard our job before anyone else.

    It’s high time that people belittle us, homemakers. Some significant changes are necessary on our part.

    HOW TO TREAT HOMEMAKING LIKE A JOB

    1| Know your purpose/why:

    Being successful in a career means knowing and chasing your passion.

    It means developing powerful habits and acquiring knowledge along with an optimistic outlook that makes you more efficient at work.

    The same goes for homemaking. You need to be so passionate that people start respecting your job.

    But before that, know if homemaking is for you?

    You’re only going to enjoy something if you are passionate about it.

    You are likely to do better at things you enjoy.

    If homemaking is something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.

    2| Value your calling:

    In a professional job, you’re aware of what your employer is seeking.

    To achieve success at work, you have to work hard. And efficiently fulfill duties listed in your job description.

    You learn the mission and goals of the organization. And do your utmost to achieve the goals and help the business attain its mission.

    In the same manner, first, be aware of what is expected of your role as a homemaker.

    Then learn the required skills that help you be successful at homekeeping.

    Have a goal.

    Write down the current situation of your house.

    Rate your house on a bar of 1-10, with 1 being filthy and 10 being germ-free.

    Note down how many times a week do you cook at home? How much time do you spend with your family?

    Write out how you expect your home to be. Create an action plan and be your best.

    3| Master your time:

    Successful career women manage their time effectively.

    They plan out their workday — the night before. And prioritize the critical tasks.

    They know their official work timings (9 to 5).

    Working women wake up early &e follow a routine

    Do everything for your home that you would do for your career/profession. This will take your homemaking to another level.

    Simply by rising early and having a productive morning routine, you can finish your housework (that is – kitchen swept post breakfast, laundry hung up to dry, house neatened, yourself dressed up) by 9-9: 30 a.m.

    Your reward would be — plenty of free time (except a little bit for dinner preparation) for important work or things you enjoy.

    By breaking down cleaning, decluttering, or organizing projects into small workable parts, minimizing pastimes, learning to say no, and establishing routines, you can master your time pretty well.

    4| Set goals:

    One of the most profitable things one can do for your career is to set realistic goals.

    So if you ask me, my homemaking goals are short-term as well as long-term.

    The short-term goals consist of something like starting my day early, being consistent with my cleaning routines, preparing nourishing meals on time, cutting grocery costs, sticking to a budget, and decluttering and organizing one shelf/drawer every day.

    My long-term goals involve being productive, bringing more value, holding myself accountable, engaging in creating a sanctuary, and learning new homemaking skills.

    5| Learn new skills:

    Whether you’re a seasoned homemaker or just stepped into homemaking, there are plenty of skills that help you become a better homemaker.

    It can be cooking, baking, canning, preserving, cleaning specific items, home decor, sewing, or gardening.

    The more skilled you are the more homemaking becomes simple and enjoyable.

    6| Learn & implement new techniques:

    The core element of success is life-long learning.

    Your prospects for growth increase when you’re determined to learn new things.

    If you admire a homemaker and wish to take her as a model, look for skills she has that you can learn. Program time.

    Check out Google. Find courses online.

    Pick something that brings you opportunities for home-based business/service.

    7| Dress appropriately:

    We know how corporate women invest a lot of their time and money in their looks.

    What’s holding us, homemakers?

    PJ’s is a big no-no for homemakers too.

    Much like the corporate world, homemakers must have a dress code too that matches their work environment. And that definitely is not your pj’s.

    Look for something comfy yet dressy to wear all day.

    And please feel free to wear your big-budget outfit on some days too.

    You don’t need a special occasion to feel your best.

    8| Embrace an optimistic mindset:

    Start feeling confident; feeling worthy of your position/job title – homemaker.

    Recognize your role and prove the non-financial value that you bring through homemaking.

    Be confident that even if you’re not bringing in income, you are giving your family your time (more valuable than money). You’re ensuring your family’s good health and happiness, helping them pursue their passion, creating a place of comfort, and caring for them.

    Keep an optimistic attitude and others will respect your role as a homemaker.

    9| Maintain work-life balance:

    Homemaking demands can dominate all our lives.

    Though you stay home, housework can consume a lot of your time.

    You need to carve time for your family or else it would never be.

    Referring to homemaking, it is always better to choose quality over quantity.

    Steadiness and composure are a must for your sanity.

    Carving out a little time to exercise, meditate, or watch a favorite show is important to make yourself feel better. A short vacation can help you recharge mentally as well as physically.

    As we talked about earlier, setting working hours means deciding on work duration. How long you’re going to work (when you start working and when wrap up), setting hours for housework is crucial to regard your work boundaries and expectations.

    10| Act professionally:

    If you want to be a successful homemaker, take charge of your victories and failures.

    Celebrate your accomplishments and explore them in the future.

    Accept failures without letting them dishonor you. Learn from your mistakes.

    Read books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. Develop good communication skills.

    Come up with new ideas and solutions for your family members.

    Widen your emotional intelligence.
